PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBC12) — Our local PGA Tour event, formerly known as the Honda Classic, will be back in Palm Beach Gardens in 2024. The new date was released on Thursday, a slot that organizers hope will draw more big PGA Tour names to the event.
The PGA Tour has announced that the event will be played from February 26th to March 3rd at PGA National, which is one week later than this year’s final Honda Classic. The search for a new sponsor is still underway, but golf legend Jack Nicklaus told CBS12 during the Honda Classic that he’s been told that the event will be played next year with or without a sponsor.
The event has not drawn many of the bigger names in golf over the past few years, because of scheduling conflicts between coming back from the West Coast and the Players Championship played soon after. The PGA Tour will now have 16 designated events, with larger purses, throughout the year, and there’s hope that this spot in the schedule will be a more friendly date to draw the most popular PGA Tour names.
