Bournemouth Eyes US Captain Tyler Adams Transfer from Leeds

BOURNEMOUTH, England (AP) — Bournemouth will be getting “a really good player” in United States captain Tyler Adams if the midfielder completes his move to the English Premier League club, manager Andoni Iraola said on Friday.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder was reportedly finishing a medical ahead of an expected transfer from relegated Leeds.

“He’s a really good player. He has performed in the Champions League, (has) national team experience, but I don’t want to go too far because right now he’s not our player,” Iraola said at a news conference ahead of Saturday’s game at Liverpool.

Bournemouth has reportedly agreed to pay a transfer fee of 23 million pounds ($29 million) to bring Adams to Vitality Stadium.

Adams’ season ended in March after hamstring surgery. He made 26 appearances for Leeds after joining from Leipzig in the offseason last year. He previously played for New York Red Bulls.

Adams’ expected departure would complete the American exodus from Leeds: Jesse Marsch was fired as the manager in February, Brenden Aaronson left on loan to Union Berlin, and Weston McKennie returned to Juventus.

New York native Adams made his international debut in 2017. He was elected captain in a vote of U.S. players ahead of the World Cup last year.
