U.S. Coast Guard Seizes $80 Million of Heroin in Gulf of Oman

The U.S. Coast Guard seized $80 million worth of heroin during a May 10 ship inspection in the Gulf of Oman.

Using the USCGC Glen Harris, a fast response cutter, Combined Task Force 150 found 1,964 kilograms of heroin on a fishing vessel in international waters.

Two days prior, the Glen Harris had seized 580 kilograms of methamphetamine and 35 kilograms of heroin, worth $30 million, from a separate fishing vessel. Both vessels had departed from Chah Bahar, Iran.

Combined Task Force 150 has now seized over an estimated $250 million in illegal drugs in 2023.

“I’m very proud of my crew and all we’ve been able to accomplish as a team this week,” said Lt. Nick Jabs, Glen Harris’s commanding officer. “We’re out here to work with regional partners and disrupt any destabilizing maritime activity at sea. We will continue getting after it.”

The Glen Harris is deployed as part of the Patrol Forces Southwest Asia, conducting search and seizure among other missions.
