United States Secures Two Podiums in Women’s 3×20 Rifle

Mary Tucker and Sagen Maddalena claimed gold and silver.

The women’s 3×20 rifle final at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games took place at the Pudahuel Shooting Range, capping off an incredible day for North American nations. USA’s athletes Mary Tucker and Sagen Maddalena showed their expertise in the discipline and earned gold and silver medals, respectively. Tucker achieved a score of 449.2, while Maddalena secured 447.7 points.

Sagen Maddalena, a Team USA athlete, broke a Pan American record during the qualification round, which also made the morning memorable. With 454.9 points at Lima 2019, the record belonged to the USA’s athlete, Sarah Beard. Maddalena also tied Norwegian shooter Jenny Stene’s world record with 596 points in the qualifications.

“The record is incredible because it’s very challenging to achieve and I feel honored to have the opportunity to have my name remembered,” said Maddalena, who ultimately won the silver medal.

As the USA’s athletes had already qualified for Paris 2024 through other competitions where they emerged as winners, the only remaining spot was for the bronze medal, which was contested between Canada and the Dominican Republic. In the end, Canada’s shooter Shannon Westlake won with 446.5 points, securing third place and a spot in Paris 2024.
