Canada and Puerto Rico will give the United States a tough fight in softball at the Pan American Games.
A total of eight countries will compete for the desired medals in women’s softball at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, taking place from Sunday, October 29th, to Saturday, November 4th, at the Cerrillos Baseball and Softball Center.
The top favorite is the United States, which holds the number one spot in the world rankings for women’s softball and has nine gold and two silver medals in the history of the Pan American Games. Despite the dominance of the USA team, Canada and Puerto Rico are set as the main obstacles in the way of the United States.
The tournament will feature two groups, each consisting of four countries. In Group A, you’ll find the United States, Mexico, Venezuela and Chile, while Group B includes Puerto Rico, Canada, Cuba, and Peru. The competition will begin with the game between Mexico and Venezuela on Sunday, October 29th, at 10:00 a.m. local time. Medal matches will be held on Saturday, November 4th.
ATHLETES TO WATCH
Key players to watch include the USA’s athletes Allyson Carda, Alison Aguilar, Rachel García, Sahvannah Jaquish, Haylie McCleney and Dejah Mulipola. Canada will feature the world-class player Sara Groenewegen, while Mexico will have one of its most accomplished players in the country’s history, Stefania Aradillas.
